The Department of Biological Sciences at Cal Poly Pomona is currently composed of 28 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members.
Although the expertise of our faculty is diverse, all faculty members share a common interest in acquiring the skills necessary to deliver an undergraduate academic experience that is timely, relevant, and learning-centered. To this end and with the support of HHMI funds, focused faculty retreats have been or are planned to develop skills relevant to instructional improvement including topics related to assessment, long-range planning, and integrating research into teaching. Short (1 hour) sessions often proceed and follow retreat dates. These pre- and post-retreat sessions provide additional opportunities for faculty to learn about and complete tasks relevant to meeting retreat goals, as well as to share products that resulted from their retreat efforts.
